Sri Lanka’s Secret Mission to capture the newly appointed LTTE Leader Kumaran Pathmanadan, aka KP, remains to be a mystery. The Mystery continues because The Malaysian hotel from where the KP was arrested conducted its own investigations and found that there were no signs of such an arrest in the hotel premises.
According to the Storyline published, KP was at the Tune hotel in Kuala Lampur meeting with relatives of some top LTTE officials when he had received a telephone call on his mobile phone. KP had stepped outside and was believed to have been arrested by intelligence officials waiting outside, reports quoting LTTE officials had said earlier. This storyline was published in few Tamil Journalist’s blog sites and then later copied by many local and International Newspapers as exactly what happened out there.
According to the hotel management, the hotel had carried out an internal investigation into the hotel’s CCTV footage for the time period in question and did not find any footage that might resemble the man identified as KP.
“The Malaysian government knows that KP was not in our Hotel that is why they have not even questioned us,” The local Newspaper DailyMirror quoted as Hotel official said.
The Hotel Official further said that the Malaysian Police or government had not contacted the Hotel with regard to the incident and that the internal investigation was carried out after the media had said KP was arrested from the hotel. None of the staff members of the Hotel were aware of such an incident until the news reports began to emerge with regard to the alleged arrest of KP during the past week, he added.
With this news, it appears like the real story of the Operation KP could have been much greater one than the stories of Operation Eichmann in Argentina and Operation Entebbe. But, it seems as the operation KP would remain as a mystery for years to come. Many would not regret as what matters for majority of Sri Lankans here is that the Job is done; not how, when or where it happened.
