It is wrong to blame the ills on India. Just Imagine if India behaved like Russia as Russia did in the Georgia-Osetta war. It invaded and liberates ‘South Osseta’ because Russian origin people were being targeted by Gerogian Army. India had a million reasons to attack and liberate Tamils in the same way. But we stood out against Terrorism, we as Indians are against LTTE. Public in general does not know that it was India which supplied/trained SLA.
Ofcourse decades ago there was moral support for LTTE, but think which country does not do that? No its all over. India should be a friend of SL and vice versa, and SL can start a whole new era by not alientaing the minority Tamils and involving them in all development.

A blabbering, redundant and ill informed article… God Love the internet, where even the barely knowledgeable and remotely intelligent can talk about education and learned individuals…

Sri lanka has suffered too much from international politics. They do not deserve the press they have in the west. Sri Lanka is a tiny country, the struggle of the Sinhalese peasant is never recorderd, they mainly do not care about Tamil or Sinhala they just need to feed their own. What is wrong with the west, they have their own axe to grind why can they not leave a small country alone. They would have been happy for LTTE to take over Sri Lanka and push the Sinhalese into the sea, which I believe was the aim. Sinhalese are the minority not the Tamils, most of whom come from India looking for a homeland. Some people shout and moan louder than others. As you said to be in a camp in Sri Lanka was better for so many than they had before, most people in Sri Lanka have an outside ‘dunny’ if they are lucky, I do not say that the Tamils who escaped the LTTE had it easy, certainly the first wave of peasants had suffered enormously by the hands of the upper caste Tamils I may add. The way their children were treated was cruel to the extreme but that was by their own, not the Sinhalese. It was the upper class Tamils amongst them who found the ablution situation unacceptable, It is not right that people have to live without the dignity of flushing toilets in this day and age but that is the way it is for most Sinhala and Tamil peasants if they have a private place to use they are lucky, so campaign for better priviliges for all in Sri Lanka or shut up, the Tamils do not have a special ticket to the clean lavatory.
Also, why is Adele Balasingham still living in New Malden in Surrey, England, surely her time is up. I have no sympathy for a 59 year old women, I am one too and I have to face up to my mistakes. Even the best of the west, ie. Obama and also Gordon Brown, who I am sure is a good man, are hoodwinked by the propaganda of the diaspora.
Thank you for a thoughtful and honest article.
yours maggie
