The clock has started ticking for the LTTE. The Sri Lankan army has said that in less than 48 hours, it is likely to overcome the last of LTTE’s strongholds in small corner in the northeast.
Top Sri Lankan military sources have told that about a thousand rebel fighters are putting up stiff resistance in the area but troops have boxed them in.
In the next two days, this resistance is likely to crumble.
Bit-by-bit, troops are recovering deadly weapons of the rebels like submarines and a heavy artillery gun (152 mm), which was found abandoned in the jungles.
These are the most startling recoveries made by the army in the current military campaign. But there is no word yet on whereabouts of Vellupillai Prabhakaran or his top commanders.
Worse perhaps, there is little information on the fate of 2,50,000 civilians trapped in the area although Red Cross and UN volunteers are attempting to reach them.
